Kuala Lumpur, February 25, 2020: The SME Association of Malaysia has officially established the Women Entrepreneurs and Young Entrepreneurs Division.
At the same time, it has appointed Dato’ (Dr) Calvin Khiu as the Chief Corporate Mentor & Advisor of SME Association of Malaysia (Women Entr. & Young Entr. Division), Ms. Ada Poon as the chairman of SME Association of Malaysia (Women Entr. & Young Entr. Division), and Mr. Winsen Khiu as the team leader of SME Association of Malaysia (Young Entr. Division).
The inauguration ceremony, held on February 25, 2020 at Bangsar South City Business Centre, was witnessed by 900 entrepreneurs invited to the event. It started with a welcome speech by Datuk Michael Kang Hua Keong, National President of SME Association of Malaysia, amidst loud applause.
In his speech, Datuk Kang said that he was grateful with the establishment of the Women Entrepreneurs and Young Entrepreneurs Division and hoped that this would attract more SMEs to join the SME Association of Malaysia in the future. (The SME Association of Malaysia is actively engaged in dialogues with government departments and institutions, provides services and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and promotes the implementation of SME development plans. It serves as a useful communication platform for entrepreneurs.)
In her acceptance message, Ms. Ada Poon, Chairman of SME Association of Malaysia (Women Entr. & Young Entr. Division), said:
“ I am grateful to the SME Association of Malaysia for giving me this opportunity to appoint me as the chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs and Young Entrepreneurs Division. I am also grateful to the members of the committee for their support and assistance this year.”
She also outlined the ultimate goals of her division which included establishing good cooperative relationships with the country’s various government departments and making a strong impact on the country’s economic growth.
Most importantly, she said, the division would help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to expand their businesses to ASEAN countries.
Ms Poon also initiated her first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project named “We Care, We Share”. Its main objective is to collect donations from major entrepreneurs to help frontline personnel and other disadvantaged groups during the Covid-19 pandemic. The charity drive also conveys a message of learning and growing together to bring greater development to Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises.
