Kuala Lumpur, April 8: The Selangor State Government plans to launch seven assistance programmes to attract new talents and provide job opportunities besides ensuring the survival of small and medium-sized enterprises, says Selangor Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said at least 41,349 companies in the country had closed down due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and these figures did not even take into account the impact of MCO 2.0 and MCO 3.0 when speaking at the Selangor State Government’s initiative of Karnival Kerjaya MYFUTUREJOBS at the KLCC Convention Centre.

SME Association of Malaysia wishes to thank the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) and Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) for co-organising activities supported by SME Association of Malaysia. In the current pandemic, the number of unemployed has been on the increase. Through the Karnival Day, the association hoped to contribute to society and provide more interview opportunities for the unemployed and discover new job talents.

Karnival day

With the Karnival Day programme, the organisers hoped that more people could obtain suitable jobs or start their own businesses and that similar programmes could be organised in other states. The organisers also highlighted the importance of soft skills in job-seekers such as personal attitudes, values, language skills and workplace emotional intelligence. Possession of soft skills is  regarded as one of the key factors for recruitment  by large companies during interviews.

The association is grateful that Datuk Michael Kang, National President of SME Association of Malaysia, Mr. Chin Chee Seong, National Vice President of SME Association of Malaysia, and Ms.Ada Poon, Chairman of SME Association of Malaysia (Women Entr. & Young Entr. Division) attended the event. A total of 32 companies participated in Karnival Kerjaya where more than 100 candidates were interviewed. Feedback forms were also handed to the participating companies on the effectiveness of the event.  The association regarded the event to be a success.
